Heliconia - also called lobster claw

Vernis mou etching of dried Heliconia blossom, zinc plate 25 x 70 cm, intaglio print on Hahnemühle handmade copperplate.

The proud exotic flower had a volume of at least 1.5 cm thick. I dried them lying open for weeks and carefully pressed them between cardboard in several steps.
Then it was ready and I prepared the zinc plate with soft ground to make an impression of the flower with the large lever printing press. After etching, the zinc plate is freed from the soft ground = cleaned, rubbed with oil-based gravure ink and the deckleboard is soaked in water for approx. 5 minutes. Then zinc plate and paper are rotated through the gravure press. Here the result.
