RESERVAGE - SUGAR LIFT (Tiefdruck)

Reservage - Sugar Lift (gravure)

Is a “blasting technique” with which one can create surfaces, backgrounds but also a brushstroke-like structure for an etching.

After the drawing or background area has been applied to the zinc plate using a brush with "sugar ink", the plate must be allowed to dry completely. Then everything is painted over with heavily diluted asphalt varnish. Once this has dried, the plate is rinsed under running water, which causes the reserve varnish to crack and come off. Depending on the desired result, individual halftones can then be created using surface etching.
