MONOTYPIE (Hochdruck)

monotype (relief printing)

A monotype print, also called a monoprint, is a special printing technique in which only a single print can be made from a plate. In contrast to other printing processes such as etching or woodcut, where serial printing is possible. Instead of paper or canvas, the artist paints on plastic or zinc plates and, while the paint is still wet, prints on paper using a press or hand rubbing. By printing multiple times on top of each other and inserting parts of plants or other covering shapes, for example, reliefs and other effects can be created. Each print is irreplaceable - each monotype is unique.
