Mixed Media Print

Mixed media print

The mix of different printing techniques creates contrasting effects, e.g. by combining the fine lines of an etching with the contours of a blind embossing (intaglio + relief printing).
To do this, the damp paper is removed from the press after the etching has been printed using a zinc plate. The woodcut or linocut is then positioned and the paper is put through the printing press a second time. The heavy copper printing board dries overnight and the pressed relief is "preserved".
Other finishing options include gilding, coloring with inks or watercolors, using drawings or handwriting, background design using monotype or solar printing, overprinting with colored or fixing dried plant parts.
